In addition to the evident physical and psychological benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle, participation in sporting activity encourages students to develop personal characteristics such as perseverance, self-discipline, teamwork and cooperation. For pupils at Agora Madrid International School, sport forms an essential part of the curriculum, and we try to encourage a passion for active and healthy habits, establishing patterns of behaviour that will help our students to grow into physically and emotionally balanced adults.
Our students engage in more than 14 different sports during their Physical Education classes: baseball, hockey, rugby, sports acrobatics, Dodgeball, badminton, Ping-Pong, Ultimate, 11 and 7-a-side football, tennis, judo, chess, basketball, volleyball and handball. Pupils also participate in the “Physical Education Olympics”, a series of internal competitions held at the school. The school also runs 6 extra-curricular sports clubs that enter teams into the local federated leagues and all students from Primary to Year 8 have swimming lessons as part of their normal curriculum.
The Agora International Sports Club enables students to participate in soccer, basketball and volleyball teams and to compete in both friendly fixtures and in Community of Madrid league matches. Numerous activities and sporting events are arranged throughout the school year including hiking in the Sierra de Madrid, bike trips through the “Casa de Campo”, bilingual Gymkhanas in El Retiro Park, a week of skiing and snowboarding in Andorra, UNICEF charity events and much more.
As well as taking part in sports within the mainstream curriculum, students are also invited to participate in a range of international sporting events organised by the Globeducate group. These events celebrate sporting excellence and healthy competition, and provide an opportunity for our international community to gather together. The Globeducate Olympic Games, is an international Olympic-style event that brings together over 500 athletes from Globeducate’s schools around the world. In addition to encouraging an active lifestyle, our students participate in a comprehensive health project, promoting good nutrition and healthy eating.
